Eric Lee
Eric’s multi-faceted career is a testament to his unceasing belief in one’s ability to create synergy and contribute collectively to society. Whether performing cello by collaborating in chamber music or engaging with key industry leaders to design programs for different industry professionals to cooperate, Eric strives to foster connections that encourage growth and progress to humanity.
Born in 1991 to Korean parents living in Seoul, Eric began to study the cello at age six and gave his first public performance at the Hankook Ilbo Cello Competition at eight. A year later, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he continued his cello studies at the Colburn School before pursuing a performing arts and economics education at UCLA as a scholarship recipient. Throughout his adolescence, Eric has been honored to be under the tutelage of Lynn Harrell, Richard Naill, Antonio Lysy, and Joon Sung Jun. He frequently spent the summers abroad studying and performing at distinguished institutions - International Menuhin Music Academy at Institut Le Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland, and Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Montepulciano, Italy.
A versatile performer, understanding musicality of various genres, Eric has played at numerous world-renowned music festivals, from Coachella to Piatigorsky International Cello Festival. His journey to explore the many styles of performing and cultivate relationships with musicians that exceed conventional boundaries created opportunities to share the stage with R&B legends Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Kenny Burrell, DJ Gryffin, rapper Roddy Ricch, and celebrated virtuosos and classical instrumentalists, Gustavo Dudamel, Sumi Jo, Maxim Vengerov, and Mischa Maisky. Among many competitive accomplishments, Eric is a prizewinner of the Musical Arts Club Competition, the UCLA Concerto Competition, The American String Teachers Association Solo Competition, and the Pacific Symphony Concerto Competition. Eric also has had the privilege to perform in masterclasses held by the world’s foremost maestros, Renaud Capuçon, Johannes Moser, Jian Wang, and Midori Goto.
In addition to his work as a performing artist, Eric worked with Johnson & Johnson to integrate performing arts therapy in hospitals. He implemented the framework of a volunteering program by connecting University Hospitals with its College of Music to allow music students to give performances, an all-out effort to augment the quality of life of inpatients and caregivers.
In recent years, Eric has featured in the 2021 GRAMMY Awards Show and the American Express Thanksgiving Commercial Song Recording - “Auld Lang Syne .” Eric has been on the Board of Directors at the Violoncello Society of New York since 2022 and is an active member of the worship team at his church, C3 NYC.
As his primary occupation, Eric is currently a managing director at Working Ranch Investments, a proprietary trading firm on Wall Street.
Eric is an honored recipient of a generous loan of a world-class Gennaro Fabricatore cello, Naples c. 1847, and a Eugène Sartory bow sponsored by UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
